Stop the Bailouts – These companies (financial institutions, entities or whatever you want to call them) shouldn’t get another nickel of taxpayer money. If there is a liquidity crisis, set up some 100%, stone-cold, accountable government bank to loan money to the banks. This is going to sound cold but if you’re defaulting on your mortgage, it is not the federal government’s responsibility to bail you out.
Make the Bush Tax Cuts Permanent – I’ll break it down for you since McCain and Obama aren’t. A single person with a taxable income of $48,000 is going to have their taxes increase approximately $2,200 going from a 28% tax bracket to a 31% bracket. (A little presidential aside here McCain says he will keep the Bush cuts in place. Obama wants to let them expire then give you $1000 back. Anybody see a problem with the math? Or is it just me?)
Reign in Government Spending – Government spending is out of control. We, the people, need to elect officials dedicated to balancing the budget each year while reducing the federal deficeit.
End Cheap Political Tactics – The practices of earmarks and attaching federal budgets/war funding to other bills needs to stop. Budgets need straight up votes with no junk legislation attached.
Fix the Tax Code – The current tax code needs the attention of Congress. This country needs to implement a flat tax system or a fair tax system to spread the tax burden more evenly among the population. I realize that this idea is a fairly radical step and could take some time. The estate tax also needs to be eliminated. The government doesn’t need to tax the wealth/prosperity that someone has accumulated over the course of their life (after taxes) and leaves to their next of kin.
